The first policy review meeting of our DIHAC study started on the 23rd of April, 2021 at our principal investigator, Dr. Myo Nyein Aung’s office at Juntendo University, Tokyo, Japan. One of the main agendas of this first meeting was to set up a plan to organize the DIHAC policy review meeting monthly. This marks the beginning of a fruitful, engaging, academically stimulating journey with researchers from all over the world. A total of 14 DIHAC meetings, one and a half years later, the scoping review of the digital-based, and health promotion policy of Japan, Korea, Singapore, and Thailand has been published by our team members, and DIHAC study coordinator, Ph.D. candidate Nadila Mulati, from Department of Global Health Research, Graduate School of Medicine, Juntendo University, Japan.
This work has been contributed and edited by professors and researchers from Japan, Republic of Korea, Singapore and Thailand. Authors acknowledged multidisciplinary professors, researchers, professionals and colleagues from more than 10 countries who attended DIHAC meetings and exchanged dialogues from that we learned. It is an international collaboration and a remarkable teamwork in the beginning of healthy aging decade!!
In the context of continuous digitizing and population aging that is being experienced by countries around the world at a different speed, empowering older people to have access, skill, and confidence to use digital technology became an important topic. To realize this vision and enables older people to healthy aging in the digital world, national policies towards the matter are the key. Therefore, the aim of this paper was to review and summarize the digital-based policy and health promotion policy of Japan, Singapore, Korea, and Thailand via the lens of past, present, and future. When did it start? How is it going now? And what holds for the future in terms of building the digitally inclusive healthy aging community (DIHAC). The path we summarized in this paper hopefully can be a source for countries in similar contexts to learn from, together to close the gray digital divide, and empower older people to be active and healthy in this new digital era.
