12th Digitally Inclusive, Healthy Ageing Communities (DIHAC) study policy review meeting
“Digital Inclusion” and “Healthy Ageing” are two major domains that DIHAC study team is addressing. In this 12th DIHAC meeting, the first session is related to healthy ageing and the second session is related to digital inclusion. It is great pleasure to announce the upcoming 12th DIHAC policy review meeting.
Screening and preventing sarcopenia is the research area of global interest in healthy ageing decade. It is the key to prevention of frailty and preserving functional capacity, the basic for the productive and long life. The first speaker Ms. Hope Edwards, University of Bradford, UK will share the evidence for early detection of sarcopenia and guidance to launch intervention, in the European experiences to the international researchers.
A long-life is meaningful when someone can stay, remaining connected to others such as friends, family and society. Connectivity and inclusion matter! Whereas Japanese older people are increasingly adopting the digital technology enthusiastically and there are several approaches of empowerment for them to learn the digital skills, embrace the changes in new normal era. Ms. Noriko Kondo, Director and Volunteer Coordinator of NPO Broadband School Association who has been experienced with leading the empowerment activities in Japanese community will share her experiences to the international researchers in the second presentation.
Professor Malcolm Field, PhD, who is DIHAC study investigator and adviser will chair the meeting. Participants are multi-disciplinary researchers, global health researchers, epidemiologists, sociologists, medical doctors, nurses, NGOs, NPOs, and PhD students from Japan, ROK, Singapore, Thailand, Kenya, China, India, Indonesia, Malaysia, Nepal, South Africa, and the UK.

Hope Edwards, MSci, is a PhD Researcher in the School of Pharmacy and Medical Sciences at the University of Bradford. Hope is currently in the first year of her PhD and is preparing to begin a prolonged exercise and nutrition intervention programme for volunteer participants from Bradford’s local community. The project aims to develop effective sarcopenia interventions whilst investigating potential molecular markers for sarcopenia.
